Training in Safety Hazard Recognition

Training in Safety Hazard Recognition
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandates that all employers are responsible for the well-being and safety of their work force. A good way of reducing and eventually, eradicating the occurrence of accidents and injuries in the work place is to provide safety hazard recognition training to employees.

These training programs are supposed to educate employees about all the different ways adopted to recognize hazards at the workplace. Also, trainees are taught about the harmful effects hazards can have on them and how to practice safe work behavior in order to minimize and eliminate these hazards.

The employees should be given a detailed view of all the key safety concepts of the industry. For instance, in an office environment, the key concepts would be ergonomic hazards, fire safety, electrical hazards, slip and fall hazards, housekeeping hazards and hazard communication. Likewise, different industries have different key concepts.

All the hazard reporting procedures have to be included in the safety hazard recognition training. All employees are supposed to know who has to be informed in case of an emergency. They should also know the authority who has to be reported in case of an accident or emergency or any other hazard. If any reporting process exists, clearly map out the entire process for the staff. Employers can even consider providing the staff with a copy of the reporting policy.
